If you or your customers a global or international market, it can be difficult to understand how your SEO in the Google search results display in the country can localize.
Over the years, most of your search results on Google "regionalise" worked. This means that with each search request, the account you are using Google domain (such as google.co.uk), where you are located physically moves (usually based on your IP address) any geographical indicators in your search (eg Portsmouth), etc.
We have some clients who are marketing their services worldwide. This used to be easy. Google.com usual "international" or "global" search engine was. If you wanted to UK companies, you found Google.co.uk. If you see how you were wanted internationally, you Google.com search - because all the results in Google.com used to be the same - no matter where you were located. But regionalization that has changed.
"Search Web" option with a number one ranking in Google.co.uk is not the same as Google.com. Also, if you Google.com results from UK you only see you if you Dallas, Texas as the Google.com search will find.
It really hit home when the client Google SEO company in the United States and the number one Google position would brag about his friends - said that when a search is performed in the U.S., the second page were not at first.
Google provides a search parameter that you can use to see how the search results look from different geographical locations – “gl”.
Syntax is something like this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=your+search+term&gl=XX
Where XX is a number of options:
A two U.S., UK, AU, FR country code, such as points
Such as a U.S. ZIP code 90210
such as longitude and latitude 32.90, -97.03 (mobile search is getting ready!)
These results are still not right - I'm not sure why. Many of our servers in the United States questions I have tested and compared with results when using this option and they always have but are an exact match.
The best option for the U.S. zip code or long / latitude to use. Countries (such as gl = U.S.) code is still back the UK listings are not present when brought to use ZIP codes to use.
Even with its flaws, it is a very useful feature.
If you are targeting foreign markets, it can be a real eye-opener.
